Pastor Rick Runyan
As the pastor at Orrstown UB Church, there is a verse that motivates my ministry. It says, “Be shepherds of God’s flock that is under your care, watching over them – not because you must, but because you are willing, as God wants you to be; not pursuing dishonest gain, but eager to serve; not lording it over those entrusted to you, but being examples to the flock” (1 Peter 5:2-3). My willingness to lead comes from a desire and eagerness to serve God and His people, His church. To use the gifts God has given me, as I serve others for Him. I lead by example, as I follow the example of Jesus Christ.
I grew up in a Christian home and accepted Christ at the age of ten. My parents were missionaries, so we moved often, but Carlisle, PA was always the place we returned to as home. We moved to Biglerville, PA when I was in high school where I met my high school sweetheart, Ann. Shortly after graduating we decided to get married, and we have been happily married ever since. Now living in Chambersburg, PA, we have seven children, both biological and adopted, with three still living at home. We also have two grandchildren and another on the way. We have a heart for kids, which has motivated Ann and I to be foster parents over the years, welcoming many kids into our home when they needed it most.
As a family, we enjoy being outdoors. Walking, hiking, biking, swimming, boating, camping, and fishing are all on the list for things we enjoy. Our spare time always involves things we can do as a family. So, if it isn’t nice out, we might be playing video games, board games, watching TV, or visiting somewhere we have never been before. The saying, “family is where the heart is,” is so true in our home. Without a family, we would feel empty. With a family, we can feel at home.
As a church family, we need each other too. If you are looking for a family, a place to call home, Orrstown UB Church would love to help you feel at home. In Christ, we are all “fellow citizens with God’s people and also members of His household” (Ephesians 2:19).
In His service,
Pastor Rick Runyan
